Where and How to Earn the Most Points in Germany: The PAYBACK Rewards Atlas 2026

- The Saarland is where the most points are earned - North Rhine-Westphalia is home to the longest-standing and most loyal collectors - In Munich, a particularly large number of trips are booked through PAYBACK

About half of Germans collect PAYBACK points—while grocery shopping, at drugstores, at gas stations, and online. But where in Germany do people collect the most points? Who uses the PAYBACK app most frequently? Where are the most coupons redeemed? And where do most vacationers book their trips through PAYBACK? Answers to these questions are provided by the PAYBACK Points Atlas 2026, which examines the points-earning preferences of users throughout Germany. In the ranking by federal state, Saarland leads the way—consumers there earn the most points per year—followed by Saxony-Anhalt and Brandenburg.

“PAYBACK is the epitome of diversity: many partners, many services, and many redemption options—that’s what matters to more than 35 million customers,” says Florian Wolfframm, a member of PAYBACK’s executive board. “People earn points while doing their weekly grocery shopping, online, with coupons, via card, or with the app. The fact that 95 percent of all points collected are redeemed shows just how much added value PAYBACK offers many people in their everyday lives.” Most points are collected on Fridays between 5 and 6 p.m., with another peak in point collection occurring on Saturday mornings between 11 a.m. and noon.

Schiffweiler: This Is Where the Multi-Partner Principle Is Used Most Intensively
What makes PAYBACK special is the large number of partner companies where customers can earn points using just one card or app. Four million times a day, customers answer “Yes” to the question, “Do you earn PAYBACK points?” The multi-partner principle is practiced particularly intensively in Schiffweiler in the Saarland. There, customers use an average of more than six different partners per year. Bobenheim-Roxheim in Rhineland-Palatinate, however, has the highest adoption rate: 70 percent of residents there collect PAYBACK points. The most loyal collectors live in Monschau in North Rhine-Westphalia. On average, they’ve been with PAYBACK for 15.7 years.

Schortens relies on the PAYBACK app, while Tangermünde (still) uses the card
PAYBACK usage varies by region. While the classic PAYBACK card is still frequently used in Tangermünde, Saxony-Anhalt, Schortens in Lower Saxony shows the highest usage of the PAYBACK app in Germany, with an average of 76 app visits per year.
When it comes to collecting points online, Reinfeld in Schleswig-Holstein leads the way: there, 41 percent of customers prefer to collect points online. Geeste in Lower Saxony records the highest online spending, with an average of 587 euros per customer per year. Munich appears to be the hub for vacation planning: This is where most trips are booked through one of PAYBACK’s 60 travel partners, allowing customers to earn points.

The points-multiplier pros live in Saxony
When it comes to coupon usage, Schirgiswalde-Kirschau in Saxony leads the way. There, an average of 30 coupons are redeemed per year. Customers in Niederzier, North Rhine-Westphalia, activate the most digital coupons, with an average of 212 activations per year.

Grünwald has the most “point millionaires” per resident
There are currently 14 “point millionaires” across Germany. Three of them live in Berlin. However, relative to its population, Grünwald, near Munich, leads the way.
