Point collecting goes organic: Two new PAYBACK partners

Organic supermarkets Alnatura and denn’s Biomarkt join Germany’s biggest loyalty programme

In future, buying organic food will not only contribute to a sustainable lifestyle but will also keep PAYBACK accounts fit and healthy. From 1 June 2012, customers in Alnatura Super Natur and denn’s Biomarkt stores will be able to collect PAYBACK points on their purchases. “Every additional customer provides a further boost to organic farming, which is the most sustainable form of agriculture,” says Götz Rehn, founder and Managing Director of Alnatura GmbH. “We are firm believers in organic farming and have been working for almost 40 years to offer people sustainable organic products at a fair price,” says Thomas Greim, Managing Director of denn’s Biomarkt GmbH.

Alnatura and denn’s are the market leaders when it comes to organic supermarkets and currently have 160 branches throughout Germany – with a very strong upward trend. Last year, Alnatura was named “Germany’s most sustainable company”. With 89 branches, denn’s Biomarkt attaches great importance to local availability and proximity to producers. With PAYBACK cards currently being used 1.5 million times a day at Germany’s cash desks, this figure is sure to rise further still with the addition of these organic branches. “Buying organic food is not just a passing trend. More and more Germans are paying great attention to what they eat,” says Bernhard Brugger, CEO Central Europe at PAYBACK GmbH. “We are therefore responding to calls from customers and expanding our broad partner portfolio to include the organic sector. This makes PAYBACK even more appealing for day-to-day shopping.”

At present, 20 million customers are already collecting points in-store, online and on the move from over 500 companies – and quickly and easily saving several hundred euros a year while doing so. It’s no wonder then that the PAYBACK card has become a firm favourite in German wallets. According to a recent TNS Emnid study, PAYBACK is currently in third place behind only the EC payment card and the credit card. In 2011, PAYBACK members benefited from over 1 billion printed coupons and almost 2.5 billion digital coupons. More and more members are also using the PAYBACK app to activate coupons directly on-site via their mobile phones.

Collected points can be redeemed in the form of vouchers, rewards or Lufthansa air miles. Increasingly, more and more points are being donated to good causes as part of the PAYBACK donations initiative – customers can choose from over 250 selected aid projects in Germany and around the world.
